Response to film Born Into Brothels
1. Why do you think the children enjoyed taking photographs? What types of things did they take photographs of?
The children take photographs to escape their world. They like capturing the people and the streets of where they live. The class became fun and gave them something to distract them from their lives.
2. What are the changes in the children’s outlook and personalities when they are taken out of the brothel to the beach and zoo?
Everyone was able to see how the animals lived and were able to forget how they live. The change in environment lead to raised spirits and fun. They were able to see lives outside of Brothels and enjoyed it.
3. What photograph(s) from the film is the most memorable to you? What did you find appealing about it?
I find this photo extremely appealing. The black and white keeps the photo simple, yet filled with meaning. The subject in running in the background, which makes you question the story behind the photo. The car and street give an example of the living conditions and time period.
4. What happened to Avijit Halder, the boy who won the award at the end of the film?
At the end of the film, Avijit Halder gets funs to go to school in the US. He takes classes all day and works at night to save money for a trip home. He is grateful to have the opportunity for success, and plans on using it.
