Response to Video, The Life of Andy Warhol
1. Why was Andy Warhol's work categorized as "Pop Art"?
The work of Andy Warhol were examples of popular culture. He used objects that were popular at the time like Campbell’s Tomato Soup and his portrait of Marilyn Monroe.
2. What piece of Warhol's do you find most interesting both visually and conceptually (the idea)? Why?
This is “After The Party” by Andy Warhol. I enjoy this piece because it reflects on his own personal experience. The colors and position of the objects makes the image seem unreal and fanciful, just like the lavish parties Warhol would attend.
3. Do you feel that using photographs or images that are not created by the artist, himself/herself, is cheating? Why or why don't you feel that an artist should use found images and declare them his/her own artwork?
I feel that Andy Warhol’s work was almost his interpretation of the work from others. I do believe that his an artist's work is more authentic when they create every element, but that doesn’t mean what he did was wrong.
